Mountune Racing develops LPG engine for 2010 BTCC

Mountune Racing, a part of the Performance Engineering division of Revolve Technologies, is pleased to announce the pioneering green technology behind their new LPG-powered engines which will be used by Team Aon in the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Mountune Racing has been working steadily since the end of 2009, developing and refining the new race engine, working closely with both Team Aon and the team’s new fuel supplier Calor in order to develop a competitive race engine fuelled by LPG.

The engine is based on the Mountune Racing Ford Focus 2 litre Duratec engine that the team successfully used in the latter half of the 2009 season. The new engine features a Garrett turbo charger and produces 275bhp. The new cast alloy inlet plenum was produced using a lost wax process, without traditional and expensive tooling, straight from the Mountune Racing CAD model. New uprated pistons and rods as well as the LPG injection system completed the major changes from the 2009 spec engine. The engine also uses the required BTCC Pectel electronic engine management system.

The first prototype engines were collected by Team Aon at the beginning of February and have since undergone a series of successful tests both in the UK and abroad. All tests were completed without encountering any major problems, which allowed Mountune and the team engineers to concentrate on driveability and set up work, refining the entire package prior to the start of the racing season.

Roger Allen, General Manager at Mountune Racing added, “We are pleased that we have been able to develop a competitive race engine fuelled by LPG, and we are very happy with the end result.  We are looking forward to another successful season with the team, and hope to continue to build upon last year’s successful end to the season.”

The opening round of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season starts at Thruxton 3-4 April, 2010.
