Update on Kingston University's Electric bike

A team of 6 final year students, studying a BEng in Motorcycle Engineering Design are currently involved in designing and developing an electric motorcycle to compete in the Isle of Man Grand Prix (the TTXGP, an MIA member – billed as the first zero emissions Grand Prix – see www.ttxgp.com)

The Isle of Man is probably the most famous road race for motorcycles in the world.

The TTxGP is open to teams from across the globe. The Kingston team is currently working on several novel design solutions we feel will give us the edge against the more established and well funded factory teams. Working with the students allows us to explore some radical ideas, as they are young enough to not be set in their ways – no one has told them what they can’t do yet!

We currently have a ‘mule’ bike to evaluate the innovative design solutions the students have come up with, and to verify all the theoretical calculations we have done. This is undergoing initial testing on a chassis dyno at Kingston University and will be on track early February.

Details of our progress can be found at http://engineering.kingston.ac.uk/motorsport/ecobike.htm.

We have just signed Maria Costello as our rider - currently the fastest female rider around the Isle of Man.

We have already secured the necessary hardware / equipment, offers of track time and support from the Shadow Secretary of State.

Nevertheless we are still looking to secure some cash sponsorship. If you would like to be part of  this exciting event, and  involved in making history with this new bike, your sponsorship, however small, would be very much appreciated. Your involvement is key to the success of this venture.
