Confederation of British Industry - Member Benefit
On behalf of our members, the MIA is the only motorsport organisation which is a trade association member of the CBI - thereby providing our members access to the UK’s leading “voice of Industry”. The wide reach and influence of the CBI brings real benefit to our members and can be summarised as follows:-
Making our voice heard:
All organisations are subject to business influences over which they have no control – e.g. red tape, business taxation and international barriers to trade. It is the CBI’s objective to ensure that the motorsport sector, through the MIA, is heard when government is formulating policy or consulting the business community.
Who joins the CBI:
Membership of the CBI is corporate: Organisations and companies, as opposed to individuals, are members. The CBI’s strength arises from the size and diversity of its membership – which exceeds 200,000 UK businesses. Membership is drawn from multi-national corporations to start-up firms in sectors as wide-ranging as the retail, financial services, construction, utilities, manufacturing, agricultural, IT and tourism industries. Approximately 80% of the FTSE 100 companies are CBI members.
Why the CBI is successful:
The CBI is the only organisation with the resources and expertise to cover a vast range of business policy issues and with access where it counts: Westminster, Whitehall, Devolved Assemblies, Regional Agencies, the EU and beyond.
Policy and lobbying work:
The MIA uses the CBI to reinforce its own efforts to bring about change in the legislative and regulatory framework within which the motorsport sector must operate.
Every department of government influences the prosperity and profitability of business, but the impact of proposed legislation is not necessarily fully understood by those who devise it. The CBI is of crucial importance to the motorsport business community as it can mobilise business opinion and help the MIA bring influence to bear on government. The CBI has an extensive network of contacts including government ministers, MPs, civil servants, opinion formers and the media.
National and Regional events
CBI regional events bring the opportunity to network and build business-winning relationships to the door of MIA members. A wide range of networking events with enlightening speakers allows them to discover regional contacts which can help businesses grow.
National events include the Annual Conference, Growing Business Awards and Manufacturing Dinner. All give an opportunity to hear from highly respected speakers and network with key senior figures in UK business and government.
The MIA gains access to the CBI's unrivalled breadth of information. It benefits from regular updates and analysis on how government policy, industry trends and international happenings will impact upon the motorsport sector.
Trends surveys and forecasts
The CBI economics and surveys team deliver qualitative business trends surveys and macro-economic analysis and forecasts. These can be of great use to MIA members since CBI forecasting is among the most accurate in the country.
