Team NoMad Adventure consists of Syd Wall, rally photographer for www.RallyGallery.com and Mike Ashton, both from villages near Stratford-upon-Avon.
On July 11th we will be on the London starting line of the 2010 Mongolia Charity Car Rally. The rally involves teams driving vehicles provided by the teams themselves, to the capital of Mongolia, Ulaan Baatar, where the vehicle and monies raised will be donated to suitable local charities.
Our aim is to take a Land Rover, kitted out as an ambulance, for use in the rural environment of Mongolia. There is only one Accident & Emergency department in the whole of Mongolia, a country more than 6 times the size of the UK. Many families have made use of the A & E facilities at their local UK Hospital, and we take it for granted that professional medical help is only minutes away if needed. The Land Rover would be a valuable addition to the hospital facilities. Above the funds raised for the vehicle, we have to raise £1,000 for local charities supported by Go Help, the UK charity which overseas this event. Further funds raised above £1,000 will be donated to Warwickshire Air Ambulance.
Our route takes us through France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
Our major sponsorship so far comes from Dennis Publishing and Land Rover Monthly magazine and we are close to obtaining a Land Rover but if anyone has a Defender up to 9 years old at a good price, please contact us as soon as possible - it's good to have more than one option.
If anyone else out there can help, we are still looking for:
- A small laptop to run our blog - this will be donated at journey's end
- A GPS phone
- Maps, though we are in touch with a mapping company at present - again, more than one option is good
- Insurance - again, we are in touch with a company which looks promising, another option helps
- Any items or services we can sell to add to our funds
- Sponsorship - do you have a business partner on our route through Eastern Europe we can tie in with or any marketing campaign, specifically Land Rover based if possible
Sponsorhsip over £100 will earn a pair of A4 stickers on the Land Rover
We have attracted coverage from the Daily Telegraph's online motoring section - see http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/6437891/Mongolian-Charity-Car-Rally-2010-announced.html and they will be following us throughout the build up and the journey.
One aspect of the journey we are asked about is the amount of carbon pollution produced by such a journey. We were very keen to offset this figure and the Forest of Dennis, new forestry throughout Warwickshire, have nominated around 20 native trees for us which will offset our whole journey in their lifetime.
