Council to host showcase of Warwickshire’s best companies
06 Feb 2013
An exhibition featuring some of the county’s leading global businesses is being organised by Warwickshire County Council.
The Warwickshire Expo will showcase the best organisations in the county - focusing on innovation, technology, engineering, design and manufacturing, alongside education and training providers from around the county.
The inaugural event takes place at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, near Leamington, on Thursday 21and Friday 22 March.
Vehicle manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover, whose Engineering Centre is based in south Warwickshire and employs thousands of people from across the county, is supporting the Expo.
The first day of the Expo will be a public open day, with a focus on career opportunities for young people. Schools and colleges are invited to bring students along to see the wide range of companies that are based in the local area, and to see the range of potential careers that are available.
The second day will be a trade day, concentrating on business networking. The event will be opened to local and national businesses to come along and see the impressive companies that form part of Warwickshire's innovation cluster.
The Expo forms part of Warwickshire County Council's 'Going for Growth' agenda, which is a programme designed to stimulate economic growth in the county. The Expo is the flagship project for this programme, and a culmination of months of hard work and collaboration with local firms. The event has been organised in response to requests from local businesses to the county council.
Councillor Alan Farnell, Leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: “The Warwickshire Expo is a unique event to showcase and promote the fantastic companies and brands we have right here in Warwickshire. The event will highlight the level of expertise and innovation that exists in the locality, from companies that we have visited as part of the Going for Growth programme.
“Other projects as part of the programme include new apprenticeship programmes, enhancing the roll out of superfast broadband, and an initiative to revitalise town centres and market towns. All of these are designed to make a positive impact on the county economy in 2013.”
Les Ratcliffe, Head of Community Relations at Jaguar Land Rover said: "Jaguar Land Rover is delighted to support the Warwickshire Expo to champion inward investment in the region. Jaguar Land Rover is the largest manufacturer of premium vehicles in the UK and is at the centre of the UK automotive industry's drive to deliver technical innovation in all areas of vehicle development. Our Engineering Centre in Gaydon is at the forefront of this and employs thousands of engineers and technologists from across the county.
“The Expo has been developed by local businesses to promote Warwickshire as the home to some of the world's most innovative and renowned companies and encourage new businesses to establish a presence in the region."
Other exhibitors from Warwickshire’s business community include MIRA, Alumet, Codemasters and Ricardo, amongst others, who will be on-hand to talk about the latest opportunities and showcase their company products and services.
Warwickshire County Council is expecting a large attendance for the event, and is working in collaboration with partners including the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to ensure this inaugural event is a successful part of the Going for Growth agenda.
Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Warwickshire County Council’s business expo. We want 2013 to be a year that sees firms across the region growing and enhancing trade. Networking and finding out more about the services and opportunities available locally is a great way to help achieve that so the more events like this, the better.”
Linsey Luke, Development Manager for the FSB said: “Businesses in the innovation, technology, engineering, design and manufacturing industries are key to driving forward growth for the County. The FSB is delighted to be supporting the Warwickshire Expo, as it will give businesses of all sizes, both large & small, the opportunity to showcase their products and services.”
