DC Electronics holds Formula Student Workshops

13 Feb 2013

On 31 January and 7 February, DC Electronics held its 2013 Formula Student workshops. The workshops offered students the opportunity to get hands on experience while learning about the industry. Nearly 30 students attended the events from a number of top universities in the UK and Europe, including Birmingham, Newcastle, Brunel and Glasgow.

DC Electronics hosted two separate half-day wiring loom workshops in partnership with Deutsch Autosport and IS Motorsport. Both organisations generously supplied practice materials for the students. Attendees learnt how to design and build a bespoke and winning wiring harness from one of the most competent and technically advanced teams in the business and got to take home the practice looms they built.

Students were also educated on important industry skills, such as how to plan and layout wiring looms and choosing the correct materials, combined with instruction on splicing, crimping, soldering and contra-winding cable looms.

David Cunliffe, Director of DC Electronics, said: “Formula Student provides an excellent opportunity for budding motorsport professionals to gain valuable experience, whilst benefiting from an insight into our experience in the industry. The workshop has helped attendees develop important skills which will aid their future career development.”

Paul Webb, Sales and Marketing Manager at Deutsch Connectors said: “Deutsch Autosport connectors are the market leader for all motorsport applications. Manufactured at our factory in Hastings, UK, the Autosport range of connectors were introduced in 1993 after a request from the Williams and Benetton Formula 1 teams and have been taken up for use worldwide. In 2013 our products are specified by every team in F1, NASCAR, MotoGP, Indycar, WRC and many more, and we are proud to support the Formula Student programme with special rates to help university teams meet professional standards.”
