IP Seminar: How to make money out of Intellectual Property (IP)

An in-depth look at the steps taken by successful organisations in order to maximise the value of their IP.

Withers & Rogers would like to invite you to our seminar on “How to make money out of Intellectual Property (IP)” which will consider ways in which IP can be used to
make money.

Making the most of the upfront and often costly investment in research and development is a challenge many companies face. Many of us have at some point looked
on with admiration at those who have managed to establish a successful, innovative business model, one that has apparently grown quickly and effortlessly and shows
little sign of faltering.

There are in fact a variety of business models that have managed to achieve impressive results for a diverse range of organisations. In this two hour session, we will seek to
examine these differing business models, using real examples to help bring them to life. We will look to answer a number of key questions including:

  • How is money being made?
  • What IP has been put in place to make this possible?
  • How has the IP actually been used?
  • What have been the key IP considerations for the business along the way?
  • What steps has the organisation taken so as to be in a position to exploit the IP?
  • How has success manifested itself as a result?

Within the seminar, there will be a degree of interactivity among attendees in order to aid understanding of what is possible and assist future thinking. Among the business models explored will be the classical fortress and licensing models, franchising, the garage sale, the monopoly-in-a-box and a number of hybrid solutions borne out of the others.

We will also consider when the maintenance of trade secrets is best and examine the implications of adopting an “open source” approach.
