Important changes to UKIPO Trade Mark practice and fees

On 1 October 2009, the UKIPO will introduce some changes to the fees and procedures for filing trade mark applications. These changes are:

  • e-filing discount - which amounts to a £30 reduction in official fees.
  • "Right Start" application - which entails payment of half of the standard application fee up front and the option to pay the remainder following examination if you decide to proceed with the application.
  • Series applications - the number of marks which may constitute a series will be capped at 6. Separate fees will be payable after first 2 marks. It will not now be possible to divide the application if objections are raised.
  • Extension of time fees  increase to £100.

For further information on any of these changes, please contact either Fiona McBride (fmcbride@withersrogers.com) or your usual Withers & Rogers attorney.
