The study was undertaken by research group AutoAnalysis in the final quarter of 2009. They interviewed UK CEOs and senior purchasing managers from OEMs which had vehicle and component production sites in the UK, including BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Toyota.
Key highlights of the report:
• Around €8.4bn is spent by vehicle manufacturers within the UK.
• Major vehicle manufacturers genuinely wish to source more components from UK-based suppliers.
• Immediate supply opportunities exist for vehicles already being built, as well as future models.
• All aspects of ‘low carbon transportation’ present clear opportunities for UK suppliers.
The report also details components which vehicle manufacturers would like to urgently and in the long term source from within the UK.
