Announcing a senior appointment to the customer services team of fuel cell manufacturer Advanced Fuel Systems, managing director Jonathan Tubb said that this heralded major expansion plans at its Newport, Essex headquarters.
“We have been fortunate in recruiting Adam Pointer, an experienced motorsport services executive, to head up our new business drive. In appointing Adam, we will be able to give even closer attention to our expanding customer base as we pursue ongoing R&D and increased production here at Newport.”
Coinciding with Adam's appointment is the implementation of plans to reflow production lines, install fresh office accommodation and thoroughly modernise the company's premises. In addition, acquisition of the latest 4-axis CNC machinery will enable the company to maintain closer control over the integrity and finish of the bespoke and often complex fittings necessitated by modern fuel cell design.
Adam was previously employed by the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA), where he was responsible for several high-profile initiatives including the highly successful Motorsport to Defence Initiative.
“During my time at the MIA I was encouraged to develop an understanding of as wide a spectrum of motor racing formulae as possible, whilst my involvement in the MIA's various cross-sector diversification programmes meant that I was able to build up some useful knowledge of the Defence, Marine and Aerospace sectors too. It's precisely this background that will enable me to help take AFS through its next stage of business growth,” he said. “Jonathan has built this successful business up on the back of real technical innovation in fuel cell design and I'm both pleased and excited to have been given this great opportunity.”
Advanced Fuel Systems was formed in 1996, with its first major project being to design and manufacture the fuel system for Thrust SSC's successful 1997 attempt at the Land Speed Record. Nearly 15 years later, the business is carrying on this record-breaking tradition by designing the sophisticated fuel system required to propel Bloodhound SSC to over 1,000mph.
