This week sees Ross Kaiser, winner of the Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Challenge, testing at the Homestead Miami Speedway alongside his teammates from Doran Racing.
Doran Racing, Kaiser’s team for the 2011 Rolex 24 hours of Daytona, have a tradition of excellence on and off the race track with owner Kevin Doran being victorious in 6 different Rolex 24’s personally in a variety of roles: twice as a crew chief (1986 & 1987), once as a team member (1989), twice as a team manager as well as car owner (1998 & 2002) and once as a car manufacturer (2004)
Octobers testing at Virginia International Speedway saw Ross perform beyond expectations. He impressed the team, the other racers and the GRAND-AM organisation by posting 4th fastest time on the Tuesday afternoon, and within 0.9 seconds off the fastest time on the Wednesday.
“Ross’s speed at our test at Virginia International Raceway was really perfect for the Rolex 24,” Doran said. “He was already competitive after only one day in the DP. I’m glad that it worked out that we’re getting him in the McDonald’s car for the Rolex 24. I think we’ve got a good shot at winning the race with Ross and three other top-notch guys.”
Ross will be testing on the 1st and 2nd of December in Miami and if he performs like he did in VIR, this second testing session could see Kaiser really establish his credentials as a DP driver.
The day before the test Ross will be welcomed to the Daytona International Speedway by Jim France, head of the France family who own NASCAR, ISC and GRAND-AM. Ross will also be getting a first look of the newly resurfaced Daytona International Speedway.
