The Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle demonstrator programme is reaching a peak of activity, as more manufacturers and partners launch their trials under the programme in regions around the UK.
In June a total of 100 smart EVs were handed over to drivers in London and Birmingham, while the second batch of 40 MINI-E triallists took delivery of their cars in Oxford. London also saw the launch of 20 Toyota Prius plug-in hybrids on trial, and just this week Allied Electric has handed over 10 Peugeot e-expert electric people carriers to Glasgow City Council, the first of 40 vehicles in the Glasgow trial. The projects in the demonstrator programme are partnerships between the manufacturers, energy companies, and local authorities, together with universities or research organisations to analyse the resulting data which will inform future low carbon vehicle development.
