Racing in ‘Real Time’: multi-domain modelling for driver in the loop simulators

With the introduction of motorsport regulations which limit the amount of physical testing teams can do, simulation plays a bigger role than ever in whole vehicle development. Dymola (Dynamic Modelling Laboratory) is a versatile, multi-domain, object orientated tool allowing multiple domains to be coupled together. Dymola is used in F1, IndyCar and NASCAR.

Uses of the models range from desktop simulation to trackside tools and the focus of this workshop is on ‘Real Time’ models for driver in the loop simulators:

  • Demonstrating how Dymola is used in Motorsport Vehicle Dynamics
  • Covering some of the fundamentals of the Modelica language that underpins everything in Dymola
