The Formula One season starting in Bahrain on Sunday is meant to herald an era of austerity, fuelled by cost cuts and restraint.
However, more than a quarter of companies in the UK’s motorsport industry are set to hire more staff in the next 12 months.
That contradiction, highlighted in a recent survey by the Motorsport Industry Association, underlines how last year’s financial turmoil, which led to sponsors and manufacturers leaving the sport, has unexpectedly benefited the industry.
