MIA Motorsport STEM Ambassadors to be announced at Formula Student 2012!

13 Jul 2012

On Saturday 14 July 2012, the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) will be awarding six talented students from across the country with their Diploma of appointment as an MIA Motorsport STEM Ambassador for 2012 during the Formula Student event at Silverstone.  The six students have been selected from many entries for their demonstration of outstanding engineering talent and commitment to motorsport. All media are welcome to attend.

The MIA Motorsport STEM Ambassadors initiative is designed to highlight the importance of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects in securing Britain’s future capability in high performance engineering and motorsport (HPEM). The UK motorsport industry has long been distinguished as a world leader and this outstanding record relies on a constant stream of locally available, highly talented young engineers. The six young people chosen for the MIA initiative will be exceptional trail blazers and will hopefully inspire more young people to get involved in motorsport engineering.

As well as being presented with their diplomas, the six students will be welcomed by members of the IMechE Formula Student team and enjoy a guided tour of the outstanding event for young engineers. They will also visit the paddock and team garages to view the impressive range of innovative student-designed cars and speak with the team members who created them. They have also been granted VIP access by Formula Student to take in a range of on-track action.

The students, as well as Chris Aylett, chief executive of the MIA will be available for interviews and photographs from 10:30- 10:45 (photographs) 10:45-11:30 (interviews) on Saturday.
