On the 28 & 29 of August 2009, the MIA took a group of 20 members down to the Isle of Wight for the 49th running of The Cowes Classic. The weekend provided a unique opportunity of mixing both business and pleasure, as delegates were granted exclusive up close access to all of the different events throughout the weekend.
Lord Beaverbrook (BPRC Chairman) and Mike Lloyd (BPRC Offshore Event Director), event organisers of the British Powerboat Racing Club, provided an informal welcome to the MIA group giving our members the chance to learn about the Powerboats and ask questions on the Marine market.
Delegates were given paddock access throughout the weekend, offering the opportunity to see the powerboats up close and talk with teams - helping to make valuable business contacts. On Friday evening, the MIA group was invited to the Welcome Reception at the very prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron, after which a Barbeque was held at the nearby Royal Corinthian Yacht Club. Both events provided excellent networking opportunities with organisers, drivers, and engineers. On Saturday, the MIA group was given the unique opportunity to experience the start of the race, aboard the official start boat, which was a 42 knot Red Jet High Speed Ferry.

The MIA would like to thank the BPRC for their hospitality throughout the weekend.
