The Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) has announced that Rt Hon the Lord Astor of Hever has agreed to return as Honorary President taking over the position recently vacated by Lord Drayson, after five years.
Lord Astor served in Government as Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Ministry of Defence) until May this year, and was Honorary President of the MIA from 1996 until 2010. His tireless support for the motorsport industry, raising matters of value and encouraging intelligent, well-informed debate has helped steer a positive course for this UK industry.
Lord Astor, working with Lord Drayson, personally initiated the hugely-successful Motorsport to Defence initiative which grows in strength every year. In 2010, he was presented with the MIA Award for Outstanding Personal Contribution to the Motorsport Industry.
MIA chairman, Jim Morris, said: “We warmly welcome back Lord Astor as our Honorary President of the MIA. His considerable influence on behalf of both the industry and the sport has been of significant benefit to the success in the UK and globally.
“As the MIA are shortly to launch our business growth strategy - Motorsport 2020 – to help the UK’s world-beating motorsport industry, Lord Astor’s encouragement and support will ensure the industry’s continued success.”
