Honorary Life Members
The MIA is proud to acknowledge outstanding efforts from key individuals who gave their time, dedication and valuable experience in instigating the formation of the MIA in 1994.  Our membership recognise this commitment by awarding Honorary Life Membership to these special friends.

We are pleased that their hard work and dedication has resulted, over the many years since, in the success which the MIA enjoys today.

Brian Sims
Brian was the former Benetton F1 Commercial Director, and one of motorsport’s most successful sponsorship exponents. In 1994, Brian convinced several influential motorsport industry figures, in the UK, of the need for a representative trade association, resulting in the formation of the MIA. He became the MIA’s first CEO.  Brian, and his South African wife Liz, moved to Cape Town and launched a much needed South African Motorsport Industry Association, SAMIA.

Robert Baldock
Robert is an experienced management consultant (and a, slightly frustrated, amateur racing driver). He has spent most of his career as a senior partner with Accenture, the world's leading firm of management consultants and was the main influencer behind their decision to sponsor the Williams F1 team. This has resulted in one of the longest sponsorship deals in motorsport, lasting for more than 15 years!  He was instrumental in forming the MIA in 1994, and was subsequently elected Chairman.

Lord Astor of Hever DL
Lord Astor of Hever, Minister of Defence in the House of Lords, was previously Honorary President of the MIA between 1996 and 2010. During this time, Lord Astor’s tireless support of the Motorsport Industry - raising matters of importance and encouraging intelligent, well-informed debate - has helped steer a positive course for the sport and the industry in the UK. He was also instrumental in securing the British Grand Prix in the UK, and initiated the hugely-successful business diversification from Motorsport into Defence. In recognition, Lord Astor was the recipient of the Award for the Most Outstanding Personal Contribution to the Motorsport Industry in 2010.
