Nano4Sport - Introducing Product Designers to Nano and Micro Technologies

Calling all product designers and materials developers! NanoKTN and supporting partners invite you to find out how nanotechnology is bringing about a quiet revolution in all market sectors with a focus on the sports industry as the 2012 Olympics approaches.

21st September 2011, IOM3, London

Background
Nano and micro technologies are now being commercialised which can enhance performance of engineering materials and textiles and products including:

  • Environmental protection – e.g. water and UV resistant
  • Anti-microbial, stain resist and easy-clean
  • Optical – anti-fog, scratch resistance
  • Enhanced mechanical performance – e.g. nanofilled polymers & rubbers
  • Enhanced surface properties – e.g. hardness, corrosion
  • Built-in sensors and electronics
  • Energy harvesting to power smart textiles.

The Event
Exploitation of the commercial benefits of the diverse set of effects offered by nanotechnology requires communication between the scientific and design communities. This event aims to:

  • Inform
  • Raise awareness
  • Generate ideas
  • Develop links for future collaborations.

Target Audience
Nano4Sport will launch the Nano4Design focus group and is a must attend event for:

  • Product and garment designers in all sectors – although sport is the primary focus
  • Nanotechnology developers
  • Technology integrators
  • Materials supply chain.

Programme

  • Keynote Speaker: Dr Tom Waller, Speedo
  • Introduction to nanotechnology – NanoKTN
  • UK government initiatives at the 2012 Olympics – UKTI
  • Smart textiles – Peratech
  • Fabrics – P2i
  • Funding Opportunities – Technology Strategy Board
  • Discussion
  • Drinks reception – sponsored by Materials KTN and MaDE
