National Motorsport Week – running from 29 June to 7 July 2013 – is a special celebration of UK motor sport jointly promoted by the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) and the Motor Sports Association (MSA) and blasts off with the British Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone.
As well as including Britain’s highest profile race meting, National Motorsport Week also features a wide range of initiatives and activities ranging from novice taster events run by local motor clubs to factory visits and open days at many of the UK’s premier motor sport-focused organisations.
Its aim is simple; to promote and inspire the excitement of motorsport to new audiences – to generate more interest, spectators, competitors, marshals, officials and jobs.
In total Formula One teams based in the UK won 17 of the 20 Grands Prix staged in 2012 with Red Bull Racing (Milton Keynes) winning the coveted Formula One World Championship Constructors title for the third year in succession. What’s more with both Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton sharing seven race victories for McLaren (Woking), British drivers won more races than those representing any other nation during the 2012 championship.
With the promising Paul di Resta and newcomer Max Chilton joining Button and Hamilton on the F1 grid, the UK will boast four home-grown drivers in 2013.
National Motorsport Week has run each year since 2006, with the valued backing of the MSA's affiliated motor clubs. Its aim is to attract wider media coverage, which in turn introduces new fans, competitors, spectators, organisers, engineers, journalists, photographers and much needed marshals to the planet's most thrilling sport.
To achieve this we need YOUR support and encouragement to help introduce new fans, competitors, spectators, organisers, engineers, journalists, photographers, and highly-needed marshals to the most thrilling sport on the planet!
