Niche Innovation Scheme - Latest news on new grants for R&D

The Niche Innovation Scheme is now open for applications The ERDF funded scheme offers West Midlands SMEs R&D grants of between £4,000 and £20,000 to develop new products for the Niche Vehicle Sector.

Grants must be used to cover the cost of purchasing services from established research partners such as Universities or Technology Organisations to develop new and innovative products.

Projects must be focused on low carbon technologies:

  • Electric machines and power electronics
  • Internal combustion engines
  • Energy storage and energy management
  • Intelligent mobility
  • Light weight vehicle and power train structures

The grant can cover up to 40% of the total project costs.

Grants are quick and easy to apply for and you should know the outcome of your proposal within two weeks of submitting your full application.

If you are approved for a grant, you can claim in two instalments, one half way through and one when you have incurred the full costs.
