The biofuels sector has seen rapid growth over the last five years characterised by expansion in both the European biodiesel market and the US bioethanol market, together with the emergence of new technologies such as those for biobutanol production.
To meet the European biofuels usage targets (10% road biofuels by 2020) progress must continue across the sector, to overcome the technical, regulatory and socio-economic challenges which remain.
Consideration must be given to issues which arise right along the value chain, from production to blending, to supply and to use. The quality, reliability and safe use of biofuel products must be ensured, whilst the boundaries of their use should be pushed.
The development of measurements and standards for biobased fuels along the value chain, will be critical as it cannot be assumed that the measurements and standards developed for fossil-based fuels, and their associated infrastructure, remain suitable.

This event will bring together key industrialists and academics with interests from across the biofuels value chain. This will include all sectors from producers and blenders to distributers and retailers, but will also include the motor industry.
The aim of the event is to promote, and subsequently fund, collaborative work to address key challenges which are inhibiting progress for biofuels.
The challenges for the sector will be presented and reviewed from an industry perspective. Alternative approaches for successful collaborative models will be explored, which include the formation of an industry club.
This event will give delegates the opportunity to shape the collaborative effort as well as giving networking opportunities across the biofuels sector. Members of the TSB and the KTNs will be available throughout to promote debate and interaction.
