Powerboat P1 Management has today announced the launch of a new race boat that is set to revolutionise the sport of mono-hull powerboat racing.
The new P1-28SS boat has been in development for the past eight months and features the latest technology in safety, hull design, digital telemetry and data acquisition. The boat will debut in SuperStock National Championships in the UK, USA and Norway in 2011 as part of a far-reaching overhaul of Powerboat P1’s sporting and commercial activities.
Powerboat P1 chairman, Asif Rangoonwala, said: “After eight years in this sport it is clear to me that one-design class racing is the most appropriate format for creating a motorsport with a level playing field for competitors. The new boat and series will lead the move from powerboat racing being a hobby into it joining the professional motorsports arena, making it easier for spectators and TV viewers to understand. Keeping to a simple proposition is key in this sport and at the heart of this is the new boat. We have negotiations that are at an advanced stage with at least eight other National Federations which are expected to be racing the new boat by 2012.”
