RML SALUTES ROB HUFF FOR BRDC GOLD STAR AWARD
07 Dec 2012
The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) awarded Rob Huff his second successive Gold Star award in recognition of his hard fought 2012 victory for the RML-managed Chevrolet FIA World Touring Car team.
Devised in 1928 as recognition of a member’s outstanding performance over the course of a year, the exclusive BRDC Gold Star has included recipients such as Sir Stirling Moss OBE, Mike Hawthorn and Jim Clark.
Huff dramatically sealed the championship at the final round in Macau against his RML teammates Alain Menu and Yvan Muller. With the good and the great in attendance, Huff collected the prestigious BRDC award for the second time along with the Richard Seaman Trophy.
For the second year running Huff has pipped Formula One stars such as Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton in the BRDC standings, and the champion was elated to receive such a high accolade.
This was the third consecutive WTCC Drivers’ Championship that RML has won together with the third consecutive WTCC Manufacturers’ Championship for Chevrolet, which was secured two rounds previously in Japan.
Rob Huff, 2012 FIA World Touring Car Champion said: “This has been a perfect end to a perfect season for me. Having reminded myself of the list of names associated with the BRDC Gold Star, it was an amazing feeling to collect such an award for a second time.
“I hope there is a way my involvement with RML continues in 2013 because they have presented with me with some incredible opportunities since the beginning of my professional racing career.”
Ray Mallock, Chief Executive, RML Group said: “Everyone at RML is immensely proud of Rob’s BRDC Gold Star achievement. We helped him launch a professional racing career in 2004 and he really feels like part of the family now.
“We debuted Rob in the British Touring Car Championship and World Touring Car Championship, where he was crowned champion in 2012. Rob’s commitment, coupled with his racing ability, means this BRDC award is very much well deserved.”
