Rolls-Royce selects Ricardo as engineering and manufacturing technology partner

24 Feb 2015

It has been announced today that Ricardo Performance Products - the manufacturing and assembly division of Ricardo - has been awarded contracts by Rolls-Royce to provide engineering and manufacturing services for two advanced engine technology projects.

Rolls-Royce is one of the world’s leading power systems companies, perhaps best known for its aero engines which are used on some of the most successful commercial aircraft such as the new Airbus A350 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The contracts announced today relate to two technology development and validation projects, on each of which Rolls-Royce has requested Ricardo support.

The first of these technology development and validation projects relates to the Trent 7000 engine, where Rolls-Royce aims to achieve a 10 percent improvement in fuel efficiency as well as a 50 percent reduction in sound energy emitted compared with the previous engine on the A330 aircraft. The second project, known as Advance3, is a civil large engine demonstrator, proving the latest in core architecture system and design.

Ricardo Performance Products will provide engineering, manufacturing, assembly and supply chain management services in a ‘fast make’ environment while adhering to the extremely strict quality requirements demanded in this market sector.

“We are delighted that Rolls-Royce has chosen Ricardo to provide support on these exciting technology development and validation projects,” commented Ricardo Performance Products MD Mark Barge. “Through our extensive skills and experience acquired through many years of high performance product development and manufacture in the aerospace, automotive and motorsport sectors, I believe that we are uniquely able to provide technical assistance on these important research and development projects.”

Perhaps best known for its design and manufacture of motorsport driveline and transmission systems and high performance engines, the Ricardo Performance Products division provides turn-key and modular engineering, manufacturing and assembly solutions to a wide range of high profile world-wide customers.
