Science Capital’s Low Carbon Meeting on Wednesday 15 June 2011

This meeting will take place from 5:30-9pm at the Hotel du Vin, Birmingham. The main focus will be on the primary source of carbon emissions, i.e. the buildings we occupy, taking advantage of the government’s just announced 20 years of renewal heat incentives.

Speakers include:

  • Chris Handy OBE, CE of the Accord Group, on developing low carbon homes and building state-of-the art manufacturing and assembly hubs. Having written "Housing Association Law" and "Discrimination in Housing", Chris will set the stage for our debate by balancing business, legal and social dimensions.
  • Matthew Rhodes, MD of Encraft, speaks on new opportunities and challenges for SMEs, he leads the Birmingham Energy Savers Project which is aiming to retrofit up to 200,000 homes with low carbon technologies, and recently won two Technology Strategy Board awards on microgeneration and energy efficiency.
  • Malcolm McIntosh from Griffith and Coventry universities leads the Asia Pacific Centre for Sustainable Enterprise, and will speak on "Rebuilding Brisbane and Rebuilding The Mind", having written on the interplay between global governance, the environment and economic development.
  • Lubo Jankovic from the BCU School of Architecture evaluates the Birmingham Zero Carbon House and prospects from his forthcoming book “Designing Low Carbon Buildings Using Dynamic Simulation Methods” as we explore the ways forward towards securing a low carbon future.

This inclusive evening event includes a drinks reception, panel discussion, networking and dinner.

Cost

  • £40-60 to cover costs, however you can receive 10% off this month using discount code “earlybird”.

Science Capital welcomes companies wanting feedback on their business plans from a select panel of legal, financial and industry experts.  Two high growth firms have agreed to present their new solar energy and bioremediation technologies, and more slots are available.  These 45 minute private consultations are offered for free to SMEs and academics.

Interviews of speakers are filmed and shared with the public and press - see http://www.youtube.com/sciencecapital for their widely viewed videos of JLR, Aeristech, Birmingham and Warwick university experts - to broaden the impact of what promises to be an informative, entertaining, and provocative evening for anyone interested in how innovative design, low carbon engineering and behavioural analysis come together.
