Sunoco to award 'Driver of the Weekend' to Britcar drivers and the Challenges continue
18 Apr 2012
Anglo American Oil Company is pleased to announce a ‘Driver of the Weekend’ initiative for both Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship racers and Sunoco fuelled racers in the Britcar Production Cup.
The Sunoco Driver of the Weekend trophy will be awarded to one driver in each series after the race. The recipient of the award will be judged by both a representative from Anglo American Oil Company and the Britcar organisation. Driver technique, improvement and skill will all be taken into consideration – not just race position, in order to recognise the great talent Britcar has on show.
The next Britcar race is at Donington this weekend and will not only be drivers first chance to win ‘Sunoco Driver of the Weekend’ but it will also be racers in Class 1 and 2 of the Endurance Championship second chance to score points towards the Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Challenge. Their aim will be to claim the top spot back from Ivan Belllrosa in the SPEED EuroSeries who is currently leading the standings with a 140 average point score.
Racers in the Britcar Production Cup and Classes 3 and 4 from the Endurance Championship will also have their chance to score points for the Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge. Mike Jordan in the Britcar Production Cup (with Eurotech Racing) currently leads the Challenge with 126 average points. However this could be all change this weekend if the other Production drivers; Richard Abra, Mark Poole, Craig Davies or Edward Cockill improve on their race finish from the previous round, and of course score the extra points on offer for fastest lap and pole position, as they are all chasing Mike’s tail.
The Dunlop Touring Car Trophy is also racing this weekend at Donington and racers will have their second chance to earn points towards the Challenge. Legends have their first round at Brands Hatch this weekend and racers are keen to make their mark on the standings with Stephen Treherne from the series finishing an impressive fourth in last year’s Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge.
New for this year’s Sunoco GRAND-AM Challenge is the Dutch Supercar Challenge – a series for GT cars and Touring cars based in the Netherlands. The first round is also this weekend in Zolder Belgium, where the series will be supporting the FIA GT1 World Championship and the FIA GT3 European Championship.
A full entry list for the Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge will be released after each series first round, whilst the Sunoco Daytona Challenge entry list can be found at www.sunocodaytonachallenge.com
