The Automotive Council and a new UK Sourcing Roadmap - responses needed before August 16th

The Automotive Council has been established to enhance dialogue and co-operation between the UK based automotive industry and Government. It is jointly chaired by Vince Cable, the Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills, and Richard Parry-Jones, former Group Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of Ford Motor Company.

The Council’s work has support from the highest levels of UK government and the UK automotive industry. We are confident a more vibrant and stronger UK automotive manufacturing and supply base will emerge as a result of this work.

The Council has developed clear work streams, including strengthening the UK automotive supply chain. To this effect, the Supply Chain Group has been tasked with developing a ‘Sourcing Roadmap’ to provide an overview of current and prospective sourcing patterns in the UK automotive industry.

Two surveys will be used to help complete this road map. The first, designed to help better understand their sourcing requirements, has already been completed by all major UK-based OEMs. The second requires your input and help.

The Automotive Council would be grateful if you could help in its work by completing an on-line survey (please see instructions below) and agreeing to the possibility of a follow-up call to clarify, and expand upon, any issues raised.

The results of these two surveys will help match sourcing requirements to supply capabilities, and to organise a series of ‘matching’ events with OEMs, to generate immediate business opportunities for UK suppliers. This work is being carried out by the University of Cambridge, supported by SMMT, on behalf of the Automotive Council's Supply Chain Group.

Any data you provide will remain strictly confidential, and not be visible to any member of the Automotive Council, or any of its member organisations.

It will be analysed, in confidence, at the University of Cambridge, with all results presented as an industry-generated roadmap, ensuring individual contributions remain anonymous. The roadmap will be freely available to all UK suppliers.

Please ensure this survey is completed by the person responsible for business development, in your organisation.

Thank you for your assistance in the completion of this essential research.

Yours sincerely

Mark Prisk MP - Minister for Business and Enterprise
Bill Parfitt - Chairman, Automotive Council Supply Chain Group and Chairman, General Motors
