Free Event: The challenge of intermittency – will hydrogen deliver?
28 June 2010, Gastec at CRE Ltd, Cheltenham.
As the level of renewables on the electricity grid increases, bridging the gap between the supply and demand becomes increasingly challenging. One possible solution is to use surplus renewable electricity for the production of hydrogen. This could then be transformed back into electricity when demand is high, or be used to fuel vehicles. This vision of the future raises a number of questions: how does hydrogen perform compared to other energy storage options; what are efficiencies and costs, and how are they likely to evolve over the next few years; where will hydrogen be produced and how will it be distributed to the point of use; and finally, how have the systems installed to date performed? The Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network, in collaboration with the Transport KTN, would like to invite you to join us for an event which will give you the opportunity to answer these and many other questions related to integration of hydrogen systems with renewables in the UK and Europe.
By attending the event you will:
Build an understanding of the potential for hydrogen to address renewable intermittency;
Learn about the market for hydrogen as an energy store, in both stationary and transport applications at different scales;
Gain insight into the barriers and drivers for investment in hydrogen hybrid systems, including issues of managing daily and seasonal electricity demand
Explore recent UK and European case studies, including domestic hydrogen generation for vehicles refuelling, the first hydrogen station in Greenland and others
Update on the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in the UK;
Speakers will include representatives from:
- ITM-Power
- PURE Energy Centre
- Gastec at CRE Ltd.
- Bryte-Energy Ltd.
- Rosklide University, Denmark
- H2 Logic, Denmark
- Statoil, Norway
