The Motorsport Industry Association, together with the MSA, Sector Skills Councils, Awarding Bodies and Skills Funding agency have met to discuss the importance of the issue of motorsport technician qualifications in the UK and resolving this issue to the benefit of the industry.
The IMIA “Diploma in Motorsport” qualification will soon disappear within the next few weeks unless action of taken from the industry, and all young people currently in training.
Without official recognition of what they have achieved, this will reflect badly on the motorsport industry.
The Diploma has been in existence for some time and relates to the Apprenticeship programmes being offered by many colleges, with students gaining work experience within motorsport companies. The MIA is assisting the Sector Skills Council to maintain these qualifications and will work together to review and develop a new purposely produce suite of National Occupational Standards and qualifications which will meet the needs of the industry.
The IMI Awards have created a 17 question survey as they urgently need views on motorsport training, direct from the industry. Click on https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/35FJGCL to complete the survey. The deadline for completion is 23rd May 2011.
The MIA, and the industry, feels strongly that the current provision of motorsport specific qualifications fall short of those required by employers and is working with Government agencies to improve the situation.
