For over 110 years, man has attempted to travel faster than ever on land. Now, a daring British engineering team is attempting to once again raise the bar, with the help of a wealth of UK motorsport and engineering businesses.
Bloodhound Supersonic Car (SSC) was featured on the MIA stand at Autosport International last year. It is a far cry from the 39.2mph record set by Gaston de Chasseloup-Laubat in 1898, using a conventional piston engine, jet engine and rocket to try and reach the target speed of 1,000mph.
Conceived by Richard Noble, the man behind the current record-holding Thrust SSC, Bloodhound will be controlled by a range of complex electrical components. Many of these are being supplied by DC Electronics, who are exhibiting at Autosport Engineering on 14-15 January 2010 at the NEC, Birmingham.
DC Electronics normally supply systems to the mainstream motorsport industry in fields including Formula One and the FIA World Touring Car Championship. However, David Cunliffe, Director and Co-founder of DC Electronics, relishes the challenge of his products covering the equivalent of four football pitches every second.
