Variohm SP5000 rotary sensor - new heavy duty harsh environment sensor

A new rotary position sensor suited to price sensitive industrial and automotive applications for harsh and extended temperature range environments has been launched by Variohm EuroSensor.

The SP5000 from Novotechnik uses field-proven conductive plastic technology in a compact IP67 rated high-grade plastic housing and is available in a choice of 104, 117 and 120 degree electrical angles. Built for maximum durability with a vibration rating to 20 g, the long service life sensor uses o-ring sealed/plug-in shaft mounting with brass-bushed flange fixing holes plus an integral AMP 3-pin Junior Timer connector for straightforward installation.

The heavy-duty SP5000 series is aimed at all types of harsh environments including close proximity to high vibration/high temperature sources such as engines in automotive applications. The impressive specification includes a working temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees with a short term extended temperature rating to +150 degrees.

Its working life is 4 million movements with an operating speed up to 100 rpm. The electrical characteristics include repeatability to 1 percent and independent linearity of less than 2 percent.

Novotechnik's highly developed conductive plastic wiper technology has been applied extensively to large volume industrial and automotive applications where high reliability at extended temperature ranges and maximum resistance to harsh, high vibration environments are fundamental requirements. The technology is often preferred to non-contacting position sensors where its design simplicity, wide temperature range and environmental durability maintain an attractive price/performance ratio.

For exceptionally long life and total measurement reliability, these conductive plastic resistance elements are built up in multiple printed layers using Novotechnik's own specialised conductive inks; and multi-fingered precious metal wipers, arranged within a unique elastomer damping mechanism maintain complete contact - even under the most arduous working conditions.

The technology is available for both rotary and linear position measurement in a number of mounting styles and grades of precision including dual redundancy versions, with customisation readily available to suit specialised applications,.

The SP5000 series is part of a wide range of contacting and non-contacting angular position sensors available from Novotechnik that are stocked and fully supported in the UK and Ireland by Variohm EuroSensor.
