Excitement builds at Castle Combe Circuit for the Official Season Opener

28 Mar 2018

With Easter almost upon us, Castle Combe Circuit look forward to the start of the racing season opening with the ‘Howard’s Day’ race meeting on Monday 2nd April.

It has been 5 years since the saviour of the Circuit, Howard Strawford, sadly passed away. From humble beginnings Howard turned the fortunes of the race track around leaving an ever lasting legacy. Since 2013, the Easter Race meeting has been known as Howard’s Day - a tribute to the man himself.

Kicking off the season in style, there is an action packed programme with 12 races scheduled for the day. Brand new for 2018 and with it’s first ever outing, the circuit welcome the BMW Car Club’s first ever race. This is set to be a packed grid and perfect for lovers of this German marque.

Castle Combe Racing Club’s home grown grids are welcomed back in the form of the Saloon Car Championship sponsored by National Windscreens, the GT Car Championship sponsored by SIMONSTONE MOTORGROUP, Formula Ford 1600 Championship Sponsored by Melksham Motor Spares and the Hot Hatch Challenge sponsored by Pro Alloys.

With almost 100 local race entries from all over the West Country, all eyes will be on last year’s saloon car champion Simon Thornton-Norris of Holt, local previous GT Champion Bristol-based Oliver Bull and Yatton Keynell’s very own Formula Ford driver Luke Cooper.

Backing up the circuit’s own impressive races is the 750 Motor Club Formula Vee Championship and the 750 Motor Club Locost Championship. Both of these visiting championships have quality grids and bring something different to the Easter line up.

For those wishing to attend and experience the thrill of Castle Combe Circuit, Qualifying starts at 8.30 am with a free BMW Car Club Grid walk between 11.30 and 12.30 which is open to all. After the lunch break Race 1 starts at 12.30 and the last race of the day is at 17.40.

Everyone is welcome and the entry is from £10.00 with accompanied under 17s free.
