Suite 22 11:30 - 12:30 Racing in ‘Real Time’: multi-domain modelling for driver in the loop simulators With the introduction of motorsport regulations which limit the amount of physical testing teams can do, simulation plays a bigger role than ever in whole vehicle development. Dymola (Dynamic Modelling Laboratory) is a versatile, multi-domain, object orientated tool allowing multiple domains to be coupled together. Dymola is used in F1, IndyCar and NASCAR. Uses of the models range from desktop simulation to trackside tools and the focus of this workshop is on ‘Real Time’ models for driver in the loop simulators: Suite 22 & 23 12:45 - 13:45 Learn how to Exploit your Motorsport Capability Within the Automotive Sector Join us on the first day of the Autosport International, for this Motorsport to Automotive Workshop. It will consist of a panel discussion, followed by a question and answer session. Suite 22 Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR), Technological Challenge for the America’s Cup Engineering for Takeoff - For over 160 years the America's Cup has provided the world’s greatest challenge in yacht design and development, the move to 72ft foiling catamarans for the last Regatta took that challenge to an altogether new level: where the UK's unique combination of world-class sailors and leading-edge race technology could deliver.
14:00 – 15:00
Andy Claughton has been at the forefront of yacht racing development around the world for many years. Now, as Technical Director of Ben Ainslie Racing, the British Challenger for the 35th America’s Cup, Andy will coordinate a team of designers and engineers as they design, build and test the prototype and final boats that will challenge for the 35th America’s Cup.
Andy will give a summary of BAR’s progress to date in tackling the engineering challenges facing the team, and describe the opportunities for interaction and collaboration with the Challenge over the next 2 years.
Friday 9 January
Suite 22 10:15 - 11:15 Vehicle Lightweighting and Active Aerodynamics High performance cars very often lead the way in the use of new technology and with active aerodynamics there is no exception. With the introduction of light weight composites for body, chassis and components, the potential for reduced stability and traction highlight the need for active aerodynamics. Whilst currently race and performance cars are equipped with some aerodynamic features such as rear wing air brake to provide drag and downforce it is becoming apparent that light weight cars are going to need rather more than this. With fuel efficiency and emissions reductions being the drivers for change in the automotive world, it is often the case that technologies initiated and perfected in the sports arena eventually emerge into the light of mass volume car production. This workshop will address some of the aerodynamic issues currently being addressed in the autosport world and examine how some of the technologies will be incorporated into volume production vehicles. Suite 23 10:15 - 11:15 Niche Vehicle Network Executive meeting - Invitation Only: This workshop is open to a selected number of NVN members.
