Motorsport remains under threat from new EU Motorsport Insurance Directive -VNUK

The VNUK issue is a long way from being dead! Securing exemption for motorsport from the current proposed changes to the MID by the EU is still “work-in-progress” where the MIA is still working hard to make sure this threat to EU and UK motorsport is removed.
Currently the amended legislation is being considered by individual Ministers from each member State of the EU. This follows an overwhelming positive vote from MEPs in Parliament some months ago. However, there are many cases where Ministers do not accept the vote of Parliament and will seek a collaborative solution; the exemption of motorsport needs to remain in any compromised solution they reach.
Recent EU elections may not be helpful to motorsport as the leading positions of power in the EU will change. However the current focus of the MIA is to persuade the 27 Ministers from each country to allow motorsport to avoid being caught by this potentially damaging legislation.
“We can’t afford to relax our vigilance or our work” says MIA CEO Chris Aylett “Jobs and companies in Europe’s motorsport industry remain under threat; until that is cleared, the MIA will keep up its pressure on the decision makers. I call on motorsport companies and organisations to press their national governments, just as we are doing in the UK, to make their respective Ministers aware of the vital necessity to exclude motorsport from the Motor Insurance Directive to save thousands of jobs and business throughout the EU”
