Meet engineers from this world-class defence technology company - Book today

Thales is a global technology leader for the Aerospace, Transport, Defence and Security markets. With 61,000 employees in 56 countries, Thales reported sales of €13 billion in 2014. With over 20,000 engineers and researchers, Thales has a unique capability to design and deploy equipment, systems and services to meet the most complex security requirements. Its unique international footprint allows it to work closely with its customers all over the world. For further information on the Thales Crawley site, please click here.

Thales would like to meet with MIA members who operate in the following areas:

  • Size, Weight & Power reductions - How to frame the problem and the trade-offs? Some case studies from the MIA would be very useful. This area drives into Power sources (Energy Capture, Management & Storage) – the biggest issue is the number of disparate power sources required to supply the full equipment fit that the modern soldier has to carry. Many of these issues max up into platforms, where cabling in particular is a massive issue
  • Sensor/Sensor Fusion - Driving the capture of massive volumes of data. Efficiency of capture and effective use in decision support is critical
  • Telematics/telemetry - Focussing on the important to help drive the issues under point 2
  • Human factors - Particularly in the operator (F1 driver!) and in the control centre where many sources of information are being analysed and are driving race decisions. Clear application in defence and civil markets for Thales UK
  • Advanced electronic architectures - integrating mission systems such as low cost indirect vision to improve crew performance
  • Usage monitoring - in-service fatigue monitoring of vehicles, components and structures
  • Safety - fire detection and suppression systems. Technologies to enable improved direct vision such as wipers/motors, coatings and integrated heating
  • Analysis - tools and techniques for accelerated concept development on existing platforms. We are also interested in methods to de-risk ‘off the shelf’ equipment, methods of reliability prediction/ testing, applying 3D printing and delivering intelligent preventative maintenance

This ‘Motorsport to Defence’ event is EXCLUSIVELY for MIA Members, and the contribution required* is:
