16 September 2014

Location: Bedford

Motorsport to Defence Supplier Showcase Event at

Tuesday 16th September 2014
10:00 – 14:30
Lockheed Martin UK – Ampthill, Bedford

One of the world’s largest defence contractors opens its doors to MIA Members

Part of the Lockheed Martin Corporation, Lockheed Martin UK is a leader in systems integration, working on major programmes spanning the aerospace, defence and civil sectors.

The organisation works with more than 100 business partners and employs over 1,600 people at sites across the UK. They draw on the vast breadth of technologies and capabilities across the corporation, and pull innovation through their supply chain, in order to deliver high technology products and services to their customers.

The largest and fastest growing Lockheed Martin facility in the UK, Ampthill is a leading provider of mission systems for armoured fighting vehicles.

This provides YOU with an unrivalled opportunity to attend the Supplier Showcase Event at Lockheed Martin, Ampthill, which will be attended by many of the key engineers responsible for delivering their vehicle programmes.

Lockheed Martin wants to meet MIA members* who operate in...

  • Cable Manufacture – During prototype development there is often a need to procure equipment cabling at short notice using incomplete engineering data and specifications.  Opportunity for suppliers to work in a highly flexible and value adding relationship to both design and build prototype cables to an appropriate standard.
  • Energy Capture, Management & Storage – The increasing amount of electrical and electronic systems in our products means this area is critical. Space is limited and so compact solutions within these areas are of interest and would be required to operate in extreme climates.
  • High Energy Light Weight Motors & Control Electronics – A range of systems are required including coarse high speed switching, fine alignment and tracking adjustment. Torque and stabilisation control is also important and space constraints favour high power density solutions. Reliability, heat dissipation, EMC performance and mechanical (shock / vibration) robustness are also key factors in subsystem selection

  • 10:00 Arrival / Set up of supplier displays
  • 11:00  Welcome from Lockheed Martin UK Stephen Ball, CEO and Chris Aylett, CEO of the MIA
  • 11:30 Supplier Exhibition, meeting with engineers and supply chain representatives and a LMUK Ampthill site tour
  • 14:30 Closing remarks from Professor Steve Burnage, Lockheed Martin Fellow & Head of Engineering Integrity, Lockheed Martin UK Ampthill

From the CEO and Chief Engineer down, Lockheed Martin are focussed on getting an agile supply chain in place to enable them to deliver their major programmes. They are already reaching out to the membership for specific requirements and this will provide the opportunity to push at the proverbial ‘open door’.

This ‘Motorsport to Defence’ event is EXCLUSIVELY for MIA Members, and the contribution required*** is:
