Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), Coventry

The MIA are calling on all motorsport organisations active in the development and application of additive manufacturing (AM) / 3D Printing to contribute to the upcoming UK National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing - which aims to support on-car / direct production activity, and links to prototyping & tooling applications.

Relevant organisations include:

  • Material suppliers
  • Software companies
  • AM machinery manufacturers
  • Ancillary equipment / processing
  • AM parts manufacturers
  • End-users

Recently an evidence paper by Phill Dickens (University of Nottingham) detailed other countries’ increasing activity in developing national AM strategies and national manufacturing innovation centres. This highlighted the need for a national strategy “to maximise UK business growth and long term economic value in the successful industrialisation of Additive Manufacturing”, and secure our position as THE major player in AM.

Through previous workshops across the UK, a broad range of organisations and individuals, from industry, academia and beyond have already contributed to its development. As one of the most prominent and widespread ‘mature’ users of AM, the Motorsport sector has a significant role to play in the development and direction of this national strategy.
This is YOUR opportunity to provide input, and influence to this important work!

This focused motorsport workshop will:

  • Raise awareness of UK AM Strategy development activity
  • Discuss the structure of the activities
  • Invite contributions from industry representatives
  • Launch evidence collection to support the strategy
