Vnuk - UK Department for Transport Initial Statement and MIA response

04 Jun 2018

The UK Department for Transport has issued this initial statement following publication by the European Commission of their NEW Motor Insurance Directive Proposal on May 24th 2018.

“The UK has a strong system of insurance and access to compensation and we oppose any measures which impose an unreasonable burden on the public. The government will continue to work with MEPs and Member States to try and secure an amendment, which mitigates the Vnuk judgment, when this proposal is considered by the European Parliament and Council.”

“ I am hopeful we will soon receive a further statement which specifically addresses the effect this new EU Commission proposal will have on the UK motorsport industry and our sport” commented Chris Aylett, CEO of the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA). “To maintain UK employment of 50,000 or more in our industry, the MIA will work hard to secure a sensible amendment to this latest proposal which, to my amazement, chooses to ignore the wishes expressed in the 3000+ responses given to their first review.”
